\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cAnunciar\u00e9 tu nombre a mis hermanos: en medio de la asamblea te alabar\u00e9.<\/i>\u201d Salmo 22:22<\/p>

Sin su conocimiento ni permiso, presento para nuestra lectura de Adviento de hoy las l\u00edneas de un querido amigo y hermano tituladas \u201cDe la pluma del pastor\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>

Aunque varios de los poemas de Henry Wadsworth Longfellow tienen una naturaleza y un prop\u00f3sito religioso distintos, no a muchos de ellos se les ha dado un ambiente musical. Una excepci\u00f3n notable es el conocido himno \u201cEscuch\u00e9 las campanas el d\u00eda de Navidad\u201d. Este himno fue escrito el 25 de diciembre de 1863, apenas seis meses despu\u00e9s de la Batalla de Gettysburg, cuando la Guerra Civil estaba en su apogeo. Longfellow estaba entristecido por los horrores de este conflicto sin sentido y derramamiento de sangre porque \u201cel odio parec\u00eda demasiado fuerte en ese momento\u201d. Adem\u00e1s, su propio hijo hab\u00eda sido herido y casi pierde la vida mientras serv\u00eda en el Ej\u00e9rcito del Potomoc. Con el peso de todo esto sobre \u00e9l, Longfellow casi se desesperaba en la gris Navidad de 1863, pero de repente las campanas de la iglesia del pueblo repicaron con alegr\u00eda navide\u00f1a. Entonces Longfellow tom\u00f3 su pluma y escribi\u00f3 la letra de este himno:\u00a0<\/p>

El pastor que escribi\u00f3 lo anterior es un amado hermano m\u00edo, resultado de una amistad duradera, fomentada desde el momento en que \u00e9ramos compa\u00f1eros de cuarto en el antiguo Pasadena College. Al momento de escribir este art\u00edculo, Jim Bond era pastor de la Iglesia del Nazareno de Lake View Park en la ciudad de Oklahoma. \u00c9l y su encantadora esposa, Sally, son algunos de los amigos m\u00e1s queridos que Norma y yo tenemos hasta el d\u00eda de hoy.
