1\u00a0<\/sup><\/em>Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0you who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0shine forth\u00a02\u00a0<\/sup>before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
Awaken\u00a0your might;
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0come and save us.<\/em><\/p>

3\u00a0<\/sup><\/em>Restore\u00a0us,\u00a0O God;
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0make your face shine on us,

5\u00a0<\/sup>You have fed them with the bread of tears;
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0you have made them drink tears by the bowlful.
6\u00a0<\/sup>You have made us an object of derision[<\/sup><\/em>b<\/sup><\/em><\/a>]<\/sup><\/em>\u00a0to our neighbors,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and our enemies mock us.<\/em><\/p>

7\u00a0<\/sup><\/em>Restore us, God Almighty;
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0make your face shine on us,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0that we may be saved.<\/em><\/p>

8\u00a0<\/sup><\/em>You transplanted a vine\u00a0from Egypt;
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0you drove out\u00a0the nations and planted\u00a0it.<\/em><\/p>

In verses 7 and 19, we see a repeated prayer\u2014\u201cRestore us, O Lord God Almighty; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.\u201d In Jewish history, we read so many times in which they are falling away and making bad decisions not only about their relationship with God, but\u00a0with the people who live around them.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Relationship is a theme in the Bible that we often overlook. God wants a relationship with his creation! It hurts him deeply when these Jewish tribes do not follow his instructions about the way they are to live. And guess what? It hurts him deeply when we do the same thing.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

In our world today, we find ourselves in many of the same situations. Relationships need help that only God can provide. If we do not adhere to the instructions God has given us for living, which we find in Jesus\u2019 life, we find ourselves living in bad relationships. God does not desire this if we are to be his people today.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

So, we too cry, \u201cRestore us.\u201d And God has sent us a way that his face does shine upon us\u2014Jesus. In what ways are you praying this prayer this Advent season? It is in the Messiah\u2019s relationship with us that we find his face shining on us throughout this season.<\/p>
