“The Lord is my strength and my shield;
My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.
The Lord is the strength of his people;
a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
Save your people and bless your inheritance;
be their shepherd and carry them forever.”
Psalm 28: 7-9; NIV
Today, Janet and I are celebrating our 60th wedding anniversary and thank God for His blessings to be able to do so. We also give thanks to our children, their spouses, and their families, our grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We are so blessed that God lead us into His ministry.
He has never failed to be with us when we needed him the most. His presence is precious beyond what words can describe and every new day is not only a gift from Him but a gift of Himself to us. This is through the person of His Holy Spirit and the intercession of Jesus Christ for us at the Right Hand of God the Father. Every day has become a gift from Him since my recovery from near death.
Many times, I have said, “I have no idea what God is doing!” while we were doing what we knew to be God’s will. Needless to say, this has led to a very interesting and rewarding ministry.
In our Scripture for today, God has given us a wonderful promise and prayer to build our lives on. When Janet and I married, I had already begun to plan to prepare for becoming a chaplain in the military. What kept us going was putting Jesus at the center, then each other, and then our children. Everything else was after these were taken care of.
Psalm 28’s message is appropriate for all of us to live by. We all face difficult days as well as good ones and our Lord has to be both our strength and shield in all of our days. His strength has to be “a fortress of salvation for his anointed one,” Jesus Christ. And He is also our inheritance and shepherd who will carry us “forever.”
Amen!
