Further Contemplations of David

…You forgave the iniquity of my sin…You are my hiding place; you shall preserve me from trouble; you shall surround me with songs of deliverance…I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye…But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart. (Psalm 32:5b, 7, 8, 10b, 11)

Personally, I have lived in the realm of the forgiveness of my sin by Jesus Christ. I became a Christian as a sophomore in high school. I still remember the joy I experienced. Today, it is more of a reality than in the beginning. For I have a memory bank of His constant and abiding care. That is why I can sing:

Under His wings I am safely abiding; though the night deepens, and tempests are wild. Still, I can trust Him. I know He will keep me; He has redeemed me, and I am his child.

Under His wings—what a refuge in sorrow! How the heart yearningly turns to His rest! Often when earth has no balm for my healing, there I find comfort and there I am blest.

Under His wings—oh what precious enjoyment! There will I hide till life’s trials are o’er, sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me; resting in Jesus I am safe evermore.

(Chorus) Under His wings, under His wings, who from His love can sever? Under His wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever.

The way has not always been easy. I have found in Him my hiding place, and He has preserved me (in) trouble and from trouble. He has instructed me, and taught me, in the way I should go. When I did not know how to pursue the future, He sang over me with songs of deliverance and delivered me. God, my God, has guided me by His eye (v. 8). I have trusted in the Lord, and mercy has surrounded me, through the issues of life: in fire, in the death of loved ones. Yet, He has restored and comforted me. That is what the mercy of God is all about for those who love and follow Him. He is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This is my contemplation—a contemplation with a heart of love for my Savior, friend, and guide.
