“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”
Are you brave enough to daily pray this prayer with the Psalmist?
Search me. Look inside my heart, God, and know what I truly love. Not just what I say I love but where I am investing my time, energy, money, hopes and dreams? I really want to know if I am setting limits on my love that I don’t even consciously realize. Do I love like you love? Do I love who and what you love? Search me.
Test me. I invite you to throw some challenges in my path. Most of the time I think I can handle anything, and I don’t lean on you enough, God. I pretend that I am not nervous, but I don’t want to ignore those feelings of insecurity. You bring peace to me during this testing when I realize that you are exposing new and deeper ways that I can trust you. Test me.
Expose me. Point out anything in my life that offends you. I invite your honest correction. I would never want to offend you, but I can sometimes rationalize my thoughts or behavior because ‘everybody does it’ or it was ‘just this one time.’ I know that whatever offends you in me is destructive to my life and my future. Expose me.
Lead me. I want to follow you. I don’t want to go ahead of you or fall behind you. Your leadership is everlasting, and I can trust your direction in my life. Thank you for my relationship with you that is enhanced by our walking together. Where we go is not as important to me as going with your presence. Lead me.
At Christmas we celebrate God sending His Son to have relationship with you and me. You can trust Him. He loves you. Live in that growing relationship with Him through His correction.
